Episode 01 – When Being a Black Man in America is Trauma

On this episode of the Mental Health for Wellness, Dr. Anderson talks to Mr. Mickey McGill, a personal friend and classmate of George Floyd. George Floyd was murdered on May 25, 2020 by a Minneapolis, Minnesota police officer who placed his knee on George’s neck for 8 minutes and 46 seconds, until Floyd died.

McGill discusses his experiences with racism started at 9 years old when he was kicked out of a neighbor’s house and forbidden to ever return. Years later McGill realized, that incident happened because he was black.

On this episode, Dr. Anderson digs deeper to reveal the trauma faced by many black men that dates back to childhood and continues throughout their lives.
